THE HELL YES BLOG
Thoughts on living a simpler, happier life

Is that dress a hell yes?

Sometimes you need help from someone you trust to admit that something isn't really a hell yes.
Dress

The mother of the bride and the mother of the groom had already found their dresses for my stepson’s wedding. Everybody started asking what I’d be wearing.

So I got online, found a dress that seemed fine and ordered it. Was it the best dress? Maybe not, but I was glad to get that task checked off the list.

It takes a tailor

I took the dress to Emily, the woman who’s tailored my clothes for decades. She pinned the shoulder straps where they needed to be shortened and was down on her knees, pinning the hem when she asked when the wedding would be. I told her it wasn’t until June, so several months out.

She started pulling the pins out of the hem, and then stood up to remove them from the shoulders. “You’ve got plenty of time,” she said. “Find a better dress.”

And I do. I’ve moved shopping for a dress for the wedding to my April list. And I’ll probably order a bunch and not stop until I find one that’s a real hell yes
